Might be a little humbling. I'm better at math! OK?!?!
At trip to Mars is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity (for robots anyway), and in this case it really would be just once. This is a proposal to send a select group of Earthlings to the red planet for an extended stay. Duration: Your lifespan. The group rallying the troops on this one seems a little nutty, but interesting nonetheless. Their name is "Mars To Stay" and they are mostly petitioners at this point. Check out their brand of cuckoo here and maybe contribute to their cause. I think it's a great movie concept... a colony of settlers with no hope of return. Starting to sound like a sci-fi thriller actually, could get scary. I, for one, will warm the bench on this mission. Thanks to Cyrus on this one.
Go electric because you like baby seals; go electric because Al Gore said so; go electric because you want a silent driving experience; or, go electric b/c you want 100% full torque 100% of the time. (No torque curve to be found here ladies and gentlemen)
But all of that is the past.
BECAUSE NOW! Now, you can go electric if you want to look damn. This is a masterpiece. It's American auto making at it's finest, cutting-edge, industry-leading technology, and it looks good while it's at it except its not from Motor City. Tesla Motors is an American creation, born of a cunning use of laptop batteries in a British, Lotus, racer... and now in a version that people can practically use. I know I want one, electric cars are pretty exciting as they are, and as far as sedans go, this one just looks incredible. Fun fact: Electric cars have been with us a long time, "In 1900, 1/3 of all automobiles in New York City were powered by electricity." -Snapple Real Fact #304. I think it likely that history would repeat itself on this one.
I once had a disagreement with a friend of mine who had misunderstood historical context, especially pertaining to which was bigger at its height: the Roman or the British Empire? Now the answer is simple, so simple that it may induce even the most forgiving of minds to a soul-crushing facepalm. But this is America, and saying things in history class like, "Rome ruled all of the known world," confuses many of us, like my friend, into thinking that Rome actually occupied the whole world. Clearly, history class didn't drive home the limited scope of the known world at the time. The "known" land about the Mediterranean and most of Western Europe by comparison to the size of Canada, Australia, and India is minuscule. But more about the point... The actual biggest land empire in the world (so you don't need maritime transit to go from one end to the other) was in fact the Golden Horde's realm. The Monguls under Genghis Khan conquered from Beijing to the Danube, and in the south to Baghdad, Lahore, and Bangkok. Just think of that; it's staggering. At Thirteenth Century empire spanning most of the Eurasian continent and at its head a culture of nomads on the backs of their short horses. It's an incredible story, told best here by the BBC. This is 50 minutes long (it's worth the watch) so make sure you have an hour for it. By the way, it mentions that 1 in ever 200 people on earth can trace their lineage back to Genghis Khan... Genghis, was a busy man.
Curbed just posted this article for a property that is perfect for evil villains. It's a submarine base, and it's deep under a mountain. That is serious business, and any super criminal mastermind would be right to implement a plot to threaten the world from here. But I'm also thinking this is the best property ever for a Doomsday Prepper. It's a submarine base for one, so that means you can store an underwater escape/excursion/recon vehicle there. It has secret access to the open oceans, it is huge for your canned bean stores or underground hydroponic/tilapia farm, and virtually impenetrable to bombs or super-mega-destroyer lasers. All-in all, the guy/gal in this base (and maybe cockroaches?) will inherit the earth is the rest of us get taken out... but is that really a world you want to live in? Better start stockpiling cans of Raid.
